accident that by eating the foods you love, or cheating on your diet, will actually help you lose weight. Although it sounds contrary to common sense Joel goes to great lengths to prove his theory through scientific reasoning backed up by as much medical dietary jargon and reports as you care to read. After reading his findings, it does make sense to me, but I’m no doctor or health nut just an overweight middle aged man looking to lose my gut.

According to Mr. Marion, your body produces a hormone called Leptin which regulates how and when your body stores fat. The body instinctively stores fat to stay alive.  It can’t tell if you are starving to death or just dieting. Faking out the hormones by eating what you like once a week let’s the body know that there is no need to store fat, there is plenty of food here.

Cheat Your Way Thin has a well structured plan that is easy to follow and flexible too.  There is an exercise component but you only work out from 14 to 18 minutes a day based on your personal fitness level.  I like that part. He has 7 different workouts including links to videos explaining how to properly perform each one (burpees anyone?).

There are easy portion size guidelines for various food types (Palm, fist & thumb).  I found that the GL / GI (Glycemic Load / Glycemic Index) parts of the manual and plan were a bit over my head. I suppose it means more to people in the medical profession or people with health problems.

The recipes are good but sometimes contradictory. For example for a “Summer Garden Omlete” they sauté the veggies in real butter but cook the egg (mixed with whites and non-fat milk) in a pan with non-stick spray. That is just a small matter for an otherwise insightful menu plan.  They do take the guesswork out of meals and saves you a lot of time.

Overall this program speaks to every type of person who wants to lose weight. Young or old, fit or not Cheat Your Way Thin basically understands human nature and uses it to our benefit.
